How To Grow Roses - A Guide For The Rose Gardener

I'm  James Kelly,
Welcome to Rose Garden Advice

My lifelong passion has been growing roses. Along with other rose enthusiasts who contribute articles and photos I want to share my love of rose gardening and all the pleasures it brings. Our goal is to create a resource for all rose gardeners from beginner to experienced.
We will be adding articles on a regular basis covering the many different varieties of rose and how and where to plant them and then how to care for your roses be they in the garden bed or in pots on your balcony.

A Handy Guide For Buying Roses
For Your Garden

Buying  roses to plant in your garden is just a few clicks away! These days there are many online nurseries. They have sprouted up online making shopping for roses a breeze. When compared to your local nursery, online nurseries do have a much wider selection. Also, they provide information so you can research climate zones, hardiness, disease-resistance, height, width and fragrance. In fact, you will be able to see photographs of the roses you are interested in and in fact, many nursery sites now have video footage of their roses in garden settings

You can also read the reviews and testimonials of others on the websites. Participating in impartial forums can help narrow down the nurseries with the best after-sales track record. The most important thing you need to check is their policy on returns and exchanges. Just in case you get a withered plant, you should be able to return it.

Check the plant thoroughly before accepting the consignment. Roots should be white and firm. If they are soggy or clumped together, you need to ask for a replacement. If it is a potted plant, make sure the foliage is green and healthy with several buds, and semi-opened and fully opened blooms. The plant should not be more than double the height of the pot as this probably means that the plant is root-bound.
